
From Quirinal Palace we can make our way along to the cross roads at the Four Fountains. This is a central point for obseving four wonderful views: the three obelisks at Quirinal, Esquiline and Pinclo and the Pia Gateway. The fountains represent the rivers Tiber, Aniene and the virtues Fidelity and Strength.
From the Four Fountains we can continue through Via XX Settembre towards Porta Pia; going along Via Barberini on the left side of the Four Fountains we see Barberini Palace. This was commenced in 1625 by Maderno and Borromini and finished in 1633 by Bernini who planned the central part and the fore-wings. The ceiling of the main hall (first floor) has valuable frescoes by Pietro da Cortona. After various events, Italian State has established that this palace shelter some very important art collections.
Here is the seat of the National Gallery of Ancient Art keeping a collection dating back from the 13th to 17th centuries. Other works presently at the Galleria Borghese are being carried here. Among these are works by Raphael, Simone Martini, Tintoretto, Beato Angelico and Pier della Francesca amongst others.
In the middle of the piazza is the Fountain of Triton a beatiful work by Bernini created in 1640.
From this Piazza departs the elegant and famous Via Veneto....
