A Virtual Tour of Rome in 1959

Location 2

Piazza Della Repubblica

The beautiful Piazza Della Repubblica appears in many Italian films of the 1950's and 1960's, for example we see it very early on Federico Fellini's 'Lo Sciecco Bianco' just after the main characters - Ivan and Wanda - have arrived in Rome.

The square used to be called Piazza Dell'Esedra (Exedra square). In the centre of the square we see one of the man beautiful fountains of Rome - The Fountain of the Naiads - created by Rutelli in 1902.
